Since we're featuring insects, here's a shiny beetle found on a trailside leaf during a jungle walk. An entomologist working with my daughter in Australia identified it as being a type of leaf-skeletonizing beetle (Chrysomelidae).
This beautiful harlequin beetle showed up on the door frame of the Eco-Center before flying off to a nearby tree, making a noise like a helicopter. Its body was at least two inches long, the antennae far longer.
During our trek and boat trip to Lake Sandoval, not far from our lodge, I spotted these turtles who had attracted a pair of butterflies.
